Tutor Membership Terms
Who this applies to
These terms apply to any tutor listed on Trusted Tutors, whether on Free or Plus membership, in addition to our general Terms of Use. Trusted Tutors is operated by Peter Hinett as a sole trader. Our contact address for all membership matters is support@trustedtutors.co.uk. [OUTSTANDING: UK consumer contract law requires a trader to give consumers a geographical business address before they enter into a distance contract (such as a paid membership) — this must be added here once confirmed, rather than a home address being published or one being invented.] Tutors are independent and are not employed by, or agents of, Trusted Tutors.
Free membership
Free membership costs £0 and includes a public profile with photo, biography, qualifications, subjects, levels and hourly price, plus the ability to receive parent enquiries. Free membership has no fixed term and can be requested to be removed by the tutor at any time by contacting us.
Plus membership
Plus membership currently costs £29.99 per year and includes everything in Free membership, plus: an introductory video on your profile, the ability to collect and display reviews through Trusted Tutors, the ability to display attributed reviews from other platforms, free resources you can share with students, the ability to add your website and social media links, and an enhanced profile layout. Plus membership does not include, and never automatically grants, any verification badge — see our Verification Policy for how verification actually works.
How joining and payment work
Trusted Tutors does not have a public checkout or self-service sign-up for Plus membership. After a tutor's application is reviewed and their evidence is checked on a short video call (see our Verification Policy), a tutor who wants Plus membership is sent an individual Stripe subscription payment link by us. Stripe is the payment processor we intend to use for this, and this page will only describe it as actually in use once it is genuinely set up and taking payments — until then, "sent a payment link" may in practice mean an interim manual arrangement. Plus features are only switched on once both (a) payment has actually been received and (b) the tutor's profile has been approved — selecting "Plus" on the application form does not, by itself, activate anything.
Renewal
Plus membership is billed annually and renews automatically at the then-current price unless cancelled before the renewal date. We will aim to let a tutor know before their membership renews. A tutor can cancel at any time before renewal to stop the next payment (see Cancellation below).
Cancellation
A tutor may cancel Plus membership at any time by contacting us via the Contact page. Cancelling stops future renewal, but a tutor keeps their Plus features for the rest of the period they've already paid for — cancelling doesn't remove Plus features immediately. This is subject to a tutor's other rights under UK consumer law (for example a statutory right to cancel shortly after first subscribing), and to Trusted Tutors' ability to suspend or remove a listing at any time for a genuine, lawful reason (for example a safeguarding concern — see our Safeguarding Policy), which is separate from a routine cancellation and isn't guaranteed to run to the end of a paid period. A tutor may also ask to be removed from the directory entirely (both Free and Plus) at any time.
Refunds
[OUTSTANDING: the exact refund policy for Plus membership fees — e.g. whether a refund is available within a short cooling-off period after first subscribing, on what basis mid-year, and how a statutory cancellation right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations applies to a service that starts before any such cooling-off period ends — needs to be confirmed and reviewed by a solicitor before publishing, rather than assumed here.]
Changes to membership features or pricing
We may change what is included in Free or Plus membership, or the price of Plus membership, from time to time. A price change will apply from a tutor's next renewal, not to a period already paid for.
